The Rhinecliff Hotel: It’s Not Easy Being Green {Photo Gallery}

The owner of Rhinecliff’s newest landmark business gives us the lowdown on renovations, regional fare and wares, and the importance of sustainability.

When James Chapman first visited the Rhinecliff Hotel, he wasn’t there for a quiet getaway — he was there to party. The once-elegant traveler rest spot, built in 1854 and designed by architect George Veitch, had over time developed into a seedy dive bar that hosted a variety of regional punk bands and a significantly underage clientele. On a trip to visit his brother David from New York City, where the London native worked at the time, the two stopped at the Rhinecliff Hotel to share drinks and life updates. Our Newest HV Echo Contributor, Teri Tucci!

Happy Friday, HV Echoers!

I wanted to write a quick (but very important!) note to welcome our newest contributor, Teri Tucci. Teri is an English and Special Education teacher at Spackenkill High School. You may remember her from an article we did last week about The Prism Award. She is an accomplished educator, dedicated community member, and creative writer who lives in the Poughkeepsie area with her family. Teri will be posting articles on a variety of different subjects on a weekly basis; her inaugural article, Leash Free Love, was posted yesterday. I wholeheartedly welcome Teri and all of her great ideas and dynamic writing style to HV Echo!

Have a great weekend, and happy Memorial Day! Take some time to remember and honor our veterans this weekend…they fought so we wouldn’t have to.

Cheers,
Laura

It’s your BFF, or course – your dog! Any dog owner knows the feeling of waking to another day where your hopeful best friend begs for some of your time to play Frisbee and romp through the gardens with a playful smile and a pocket full of treats. So you pack your pooch in your car…but where to go? Should you take them to your local park? Family parks are a nice option but leash laws prevent your beloved Snoopy from walking without a firm harness securing her furry neck.
