Stony Kill Closing? The Online Community Speaks Out

The local online community is speaking out against the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC)’s plan to close Stony Kill Farm for the 2010 fiscal year.

The farm and environmental facility, located on Route 9D in the town of Fishkill, is a 1,000 acre working farm owned and operated by the DEC as an environmental education center. Founded in 1973, Stony Kill has provided visitors with nature and hiking trails, community gardens, and environmental information through the Manor House library and various educational programs. Local Family Unshaken by Chilean Earthquake

How one Hudson Valley family survived the 2010 Chilean Earthquake to become stronger than ever.

When Pat Cannizzaro and her family left for Chile on February 13th, they thought they would be spending a few weeks vacationing and visiting family. Pat, the Sales Manager at Weichert Realtors in Fishkill, was ready for some time off after a busy and productive few months at work.

Accompanied by her husband Frank and her children Nicholas, 14, Natalie, 17, Frank, 24, and Frank’s girlfriend Kim, they left their home in Hopewell Junction and boarded the plane with hopes of enjoying a relaxing break from their everyday lives. Instead, what they faced was the 2010 Chilean earthquake that, at 8.8 on the moment magnitude scale, was the strongest earthquake worldwide since the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake. Local Composer Plans Musical Project of Towering Proportions

Beacon resident Joseph Bertolozzi has his sights set on playing what could be the largest instrument in the world – the Eiffel Tower.

Bertolozzi plans to use the Eiffel Tower as a giant percussion instrument

When Joseph Bertolozzi thinks about music, he thinks big. Big as in massive pipe organs and 60-piece gong sets. Bigger still is his most recent musical endeavor, a project that changed the definition of “heavy metal” for the entire Hudson Valley: turning the Mid-Hudson Bridge into a giant percussion instrument.

If that isn’t big enough for you, the Dutchess County composer now has his sights set on an even higher target: the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Bertolozzi is currently working on a proposal to use one quadrant of the massive global icon for a live composition, complete with a small army of percussionists to help him pull it off.
